Waste generation in the European Union has been around 500 kg per capita in the last decade. In 2020, total waste generation varies considerably between EU countries, ranging from 786 kg per capita in Denmark to 472 kg per capita in Spain, beeing the eighth country in the EU with a lower amount of waste per capita generated.
The variation reflects differences in consumption patterns and economic wealth between countries, but also depends on the organization of municipal waste collection and management.
